New Academic Year 2011-2012

Well, it's been a long time since my last post. I just don't have enough time to write anymore because I got a job now as a home tutor. We still homeschool, though, but I can't use the great Charlotte Mason method anymore. I need to use something simple and organized, so I choose Christian Light Education. I think I blogged about this curriculum already.

So, it arrived yesterday. Yay! I've been waiting for it for about 4 months. It's not too late anyway, but I've started her with some worksheets and other workbook that I bought a couple of months ago. Well, looking at the LightUnits, I'm satisfied with the materials and I actually like it. I can't wait to start it out with Andrea next Monday. She's excited, too.
Just arrived
Whoa! 2nd Grade CLE
Andrea and her books
I created a student planner for her to use with this curriculum. It was inspired by the planner they have, I just recreated, tweaked it a little bit to suit our needs, and print it out on an A5 blank loose leaf.
So girly..
Here are the closer look. I'm so sorry for the picture quality, I took them with my phone's camera.
The front cover
The first page is for weekly appointments, special appointments, and weekly memory verse
The second and third page are the typical student planner plus a self evaluation
The fourth page is for journal
The back cover with a Scripture
We bought a new "office" for her because her old table and chair were too small now. Here, she can keep her stationaries, study books, pictures, and all of her fave books in a basket.
Andrea's "office"
What's on the table?
All of Andrea's favorite books are here in the basket
With all of this preparation, I'm really looking forward to teach her on Monday. As for Brandon, We're still using the Phonics Reader and the activity book, Smart Start Math activity book, and Smart Start Science activity book, all for kindergarten level. I'm thinking of buying CLE's 1st grade for him later after he finish all the level from Smart Start series.

  1. looks great! my daughter just turned 5 and we have been doing CM method with her. i'm having difficulty in deciding a math curriculum. i'd like to have something with minimal preparation time and is in-line with the CM philosophy.

may you have a successful 2011-2012 school year!

I also love CM but I can't really do it now because I have to go to work in the afternoon. Charlotte's approach is very gentle so I think you don't have to stress out in picking out a math curriculum for your daughter. With CM, you don't have to have your daughter sit and do a math subject at 5yo. You can just introduce her to counting and recognizing numbers. :-)

Well, hope you'll have a great year, too!
